Steve

I routinely encounter program failures in Windows
Explorer, this happens randomly, usually once a week. I
am running Windows XP, SP1, with all of the mandated
fixes applied. This problem has occured since I
purchased the system (Gateway P4). The problem became
less severe after I switched from Mcafee to Norton for
Virus Scanning. Some of my folders are quite large, 20
GIG, 6000 files. Any suggestions

Try the system file checker tool, click start, run, and
type in; " sfc /scannow " with that space after sfc, and
it may ask for a XP CD, which you can substitute with the
service pack one CD, to copy any needed system files. In
the Event Viewer, in administrative tools, in the control
panel, does list error and warning messages for both
applications and the system.

Hi!
it's a common issue that antivirus softwares always poke their noses in
the system.
Best way to know what's the reason behind:-
start>control panel>administrative tools>event viewer -here you can view
the application error logs.
