Fails to get past boot screen?

Hi all,

The computer just sits there with the 3 little sqaures
going from left to right. How can I figure out what
is stopping the boot process? and ultimately fix it?
My first two guesses are hardware problems and
driver problems. XPH with SP2 and all updates.

How about safe mode?

if you have your windows xp cd when use it: when its done loading press
r.then pick the installation. then type in the admin password (if you bought
it from a manufacturer then just hit enter).then type in fixboot.then type in
y. then fixmbr.then y.

thanks for the response. nothing I tried including safe mode worked.
ended up reloading from scratch. fortunately nothing important on
the machine.
