Failed creating direct3d device

I am trying to play chess titans that come with Vista and all that I get is a
message box saying 'Failed creating direct3d device'

Can anyone help with this please
 
What video card do you have in your system? Try updating your video card
drivers and see if that fixes the problem.
 
My graphics card is a RADEON 9600pro. 256mb
I have downloaded and installed the latest driver - Catalyst® Version 07.12
this is for vista. Thanks for your reply
