fail to instal .netframework 2.0

I had install .netframe work 2.0 in Window XP,
however, I can see the progress bar is movning.but wait over 1 hrs, it still
cannot completed the process.
Do I need to remove the old verion first ?/
please help !

Are you sure all virus scanners and other security programs are turned off?

No, the different versions of the .NET Framework can/should be installed
side-by-side. VS.NET 2003 depends on .NET Framework 1.1.
