Fade Pictures in and Out?

Is there any way under the animations feature to make one picture slowly
fade out while another one fades in? So far, I am only getting a fade-out,
then the background sits there for a while before the next slide fades in.
I would like them to happen with a smoother flow. Thanks, CarolT

If you are looking for crossfade, you can make use of slide transition.
Add one picture on each slide, then click Slide Show > Slide Transition.
Select Fade Smoothly, then Apply to All Slides.

I usually do a fade out/fade in from one image to another on one slide. I put
both images on one slide and use the Fade exit and entrance animations,
rather than slide transitions. Make the second (entrance) animation With
Previous, and then the first image will fade out and the second will fade in
at the same time, very smoothly.
