Factory Restore Mistake

Please someone help me recover my years of pictures after DUMB boyfriend did
Factory Restore.
 
The method used by OEMs to restore your computer permanently erases the hard disk. The only way you might -- might -- be able to recover your data is to the bring the hard disk to a professional data recovery company. Expect to pay hundreds of dollars (or more) for that service.

Just think...if only you'd backed up...

Thanks for help. Learned my lesson a little too late, will be backing up in

You might as well get the frying pan and clobber him over the head

The chances to recover those files after doing a manufacturer's factory
restoration is almost nil to none. If you stopped using it immediately
after discovering the fact, it may be possible for one of those high-priced
firms that can do criminal file recoveries on hard disks to retrieve some of
the files, but it depends on how valuable the files are and how much you are
willing to pay.

I'm not sure I'd be so pessimistic as the others. I regularly restore disk
images and have on occassions had to get something back. I use a product
from recovery specialists, Ontrack called Easy Recovery Pro
http://www.ontrack.com/easyrecoveryprofessional/ They have a trial version
on their site which will scan your computer and tell you what it can get
back. The snag is you need to buy the full version to get the actual files
restored, but at least you know file recovery is possible and then its up to
you if you want the cost of the recovery.

You did not back up your "years of pictures"?

Too bad...So sad!

Life has a way of teaching us those things we need to know.

You have just had a lesson from life...if the photos are valuable, back them
up. What if the hard drive had gone bad? What if the computer were stolen?

Dig out your camera, and retake as many of them as you can. There's no
way to recover them from the hard drive.

I f you want to spend big bucks with a recovery service and if you have not written too much since the restore, maybe you get some. IF THEY CANNOT YOU STILL PAY.
Buy a good backup program like Acronis Drive Image and USE IT.
You learned the hard way, sorry!
