I have xp pro and i am trying to get the advanced menu
option with the F8 key so i can get safe mode etc.
Instead i get " select first boot order" where you can
choose to boot to ide or floppy, cdrom. How can i get to
the advanced menu option instead of this. I have no way
of getting to safe mode can some one help?

Regards Chris

Hi Chris,

To get into the Safe Mode Boot Menu, you'll have to wait till right after
the BIOS startup section of your computer's bootup, and then rapidly tap F8
on your keyboard to get the Safe Mode boot menu.

Sounds like you already went into the Bios (Setup). You do "not" want to
get into the Bios (Setup). Let the PC boot during the "POST" (power-on self
test) routine, when your screen reach a point, it should list a message at
the bottom, "to press F8 ..to access safe-mode.".

As a note, different PC's use different keys to access the Bios (Setup),
such as "Esc", "F1", or "F2", etc.

You're just acting a few seconds too soon. Wait till the BIOS tests are
finished., then press F8.

The right moment is when it goes to a black screen, but it can be tricky
to hit. An alternative is, in XP, Start - Run - MSConfig.exe and on
the BOOT.INI page check /SAFEBOOT

Exit and restart into Safe mode. Once finished with it you will need to
run the program again to uncheck the box, and after the reboot, when
there is a panel about being in troubleshooting mode, check the 'Don't
show again' and OK.
