F8 Function

Some how the function of my F8 key has been changed.
Before when I use the F8 key the menu allowed me to select which drive I
wanted to boot from. I have a removable harddrive I use as backup. I would
like to be able to boot from this drive if I have a problem

That F8 option is a BIOS option....works before XP even loads.
Check for a setting in your BIOS to see if it was deactivated.That removable
HD needs to have a MBR on it in order to be bootable...IF your BIOS supports
booting off a removable device.
