extra "dot" while typing

I'm trying to type a paper in word 2003 and after each word when I touch the
space bar there appear a "dot between each word. How do I get rid of the
"dot".

Those dots are used to make spaces visible. They will not print. Many users
find that making non-printing marks visible helps to see exactly what's in a
document. If they're distracting, they (along with a number of other
non-printing marks) can be toggled on/off by pressing Ctrl+Shift+8
(usually), or by clicking the Show/Hide tool in the Standard toolbar. For
more precise control over the non-printing marks, choose Tools - Options -
View, and look at the Formatting Marks section.
