external hard drives

I have an external hard drive with 5 partitions. Windows recognize it and
assigns sequential drive letters. f,g,h,i,j

Now the problem. Before connecting the external drive I assign drive 'G' to
a special folder on the main hard drive(C). This works no problem.

Once connected windows attempts to assign drive 'G' to one of the external
drive partitions. I get no errors BUT the external partition can not be
viewed. The name of the partition is shown for the 'G' drive. But the 'G'
drive has as I want the info from the special folder I assigned. How do I
get this partition to go elsewhere?

I would try disconnecting the external hard drive, making the folder on your
hard drive X: (or something similar) and reconnecting the hard drive. Once
Windows recognises everything, try renaming the G: on your external hard
drive to Z: (or something similar) and change your folder X: back to G:.
Long winded and definately anything but technically competent, but that
would be my first try!
