Hard drive letter missing

I partitioned my external firewire drive to letters D, E, F, and G. I
used TweakUI to assign the My Documents to drive D instead of C since
the D drive is much larger. When I took the XP Pro laptop to another
location without the external drive, I got an error message regarding
not being able to find the D drive. However, that didn't cause a
problem since an Explorer directory box came up each time and allowed
me to navigate to wherever I wanted to store data on the C drive.

When I got back home and connected the firewire drive, my disk letters
were all pushed down the alphabet by 1, so my drives show up as E, F,
G, H. All my data is still intact although the My Documents folder
(which was mapped to the D drive) is no longer working. When I tried
to manually change the letters via the Disk Management administrative
tool I was only given a choice of letters starting at E. Is there any
way I can get the hard drive assignments to start at D again? Thanks
in advance.

You could have another device mapped to D already. Find this device and
re-map it. You will then be able to re-map the firewire drive.
