hi , i am looking to buy an external hard drive and was wondering if anybody
had some good sugestions as to the make and model ,i have read posts here
were people have had problems finding compatible drives to work with vista.i
am running home premium on a compaq laptop thanks for any help

I just bought a 120gig Seagate SATA HD and a seperate HD enclosure that was
capable of connecting via E-Sata or USB.
I use this drive on my Acer Laptop(Vista Home Premium) thru USB connection
without problems.I also use it on my XP Home machine with the E-SATA
conection.Acronis True Image sees it in both instances and I can create an
Image of either system.

hi peter, thanks for the speedy response thats usefull especialy knowing it
will work on my xp pc aswell ,thanks

I use various external hard drives and disc r/w drives for my XP and Vista
Home Premium laptops. I plug-in and play via USB. No fuss, no muss. No
problems.

I use my external hard drives and disc r/w drives for storing documents and
back up files. Nothing exotic. I don't partition the external hard drives or
reformat. I can't address any problems a person may have in that area,
especially those who use an external hard drive to boot off a primary or
seconday OS. Overall, I'd say that most external disc drives on the shelves
today are compatible with XP and Vista. Buy one, plug-it in and it Vista
should recognize it right away (click on Computer). (Follow your computer's
recommendations for safely removing hardware. In other words, don't unplug
external device during a data transfer. But you probably knew that already.)

Hope this helps. ;)
