External Hard Drive on Network Accessiblity

Maybe I should have posted in networking but there were several threads
discussing this so I thought I would try here. I have a laptop which has an
external hard drive hooked up via esata cable to an pc express card as I do
not have esata ports on the laptop. The laptop is on my network with a
desktop pc.The external drive is accessible only from the laptop but not from
my desktop pc. My two questions are: 1)Should I be able to access the
external drive the way it is setup? and 2) If I connected the external drive
to the desktop using a PCI card(I don't have any more sata ports on mb) would
it be accessible on the network?
Thanks Dale

Have you tried to _share_ the drive?
It works better when shared.
