External Firewire Drive

I have a Western Digital external combo drive hooked up to my
Dell 4550 running XP Profession. I hooked it up via the
firewire connection. All seemed well - it connected and showed
up as a new drive. (FTIW, I also have a iPOD hooked up to the
same firewire card for some time now, and it's been fine).

When I went to reboot the machine with the WD combo drive
attached, the machine blue screened on reboot with a
page_fault_nonpaged_area. Booted again - same thing.
Disconnected the drive. Boot was fine. Reconnected the drive
following the boot, all is fine.

Any ideas what's going on?
