I have a Lite-on SOHW 832s external dvd player/burner. I had to take it out
of its case and clean it out with air and i noticed it had three sets of
wires one multipin, a four pin and one small two prong, the multipin and four
pin i could see were they went but the small two prong i could not figure out
were it went as it was unpluged when i opened the top upcould someone tell me
what this wire is for and if it needs to be plugged in.

This newsgroup is intended for Windows XP related hardware discussions,
perhaps the Lite-on site has a group for their hardware related question?

If you noticed that the two prong wire was not olugged in and this was
the first time you opened it, then it is safe to assume it was not
being used.

As previous stated, this is not a Windows XP problem.

If I have to guess (obviously), would say it was an old-style SPDIF
connection for audio only. If so, no longer needed as windows can pull
audio data directly over the data cable and decode properly.
