external data source for pivot tables

i am using using office 2003. i am pulling data in from access i have two
hundred thousand plus records all my summed data shows up as zeros when
infact its not zero .... anyone have any clues
 
Hi,

Probably Excel thinks the data is text.
Check the Access table in design mode and make sure the field is a numerical
data type, not text.
 
that was exactly it..... access is treating these fields as text fields when
they are not
