external cd burner incompatability

After installing win XP my Sony cd burner will not
function. It seems the need for a driver up-date system
is needed from Microsoft. A USB 2.0 Driver update is
required and I cannot find a source to correct this
problem.
 
Have u installed service pack 1? that has the usb 2.0
update in it.
