External 10 Keypad Issue

I'm trying to use an external 10-Key pad with my laptop, however, when I
activate it (use the num-lock function), all of the letters on the right side
of the keyboard also turn into numbers. Anyone know of a way to disable the
num-lock on the main keyboard (keep the keys as letters) but keep it active
on the 10-key (so I don't have to constantly enable/disable the num-lock
function)?

Thanks much.

The maker of the external Keypad should have provided software to
enable you to do that. Contact them.

Laptops have an embedded numpad. You should be able to turn
that off and still run the external USB 10 key. See your
manual, look for a FAQ on their site, every laptop is a
little different.
