If this idea of extending Daylight Saving Time becomes law, what's going to
happen with all the computers that now change time automatically at the present
changeover dates?

Could an update patch be made available that changes the dates on computers, or
would we be stuck with equipment that's out of synch with what will then be
reality?

Just curious . . . .

Your computer will automatically adjust for Daylight
Saving Time by the time server....no need for any patch.

That if your are using the time server. I don't, I disabled it.

They said it will now go into affect the year after the energy act
goes into effect.

For most windows operating's system 95, 95b, 98se, me, and nt based
system. The old windows 95/nt kernel toy called tzedit.exe will
work. Not a toy now? I still have it.

Indiana may need the tool next year as well.
Most of Indiana will be on Eastern daylight time next year unless
counties petition to be on Central time. Vigo county (Terre haute)
is going to petition to be on Central time

Of course the Indiana legislators could repeal it next session. (2006)
They would have to get enough votes to overturn the governors veto.

Carey, time updates are done in UTC (like GMT). Windows adds/subtracts the time zone offset and daylight saving. They are stored locally.

I sincerely wish that this should be your biggest problem i
computing!
Don't you think that the 10 second it takes to change the time on you
computer at, the appropriate time, would be easier and a lot faster tha
downloading and applying a patch?
Remember the old times? Turn on your machine with the 5 1/4 in flopp
and look at your watch, type in the time, and hey pesto, you were o
your way.
Some people have it too easy nowadays!
Good luck to them

Back in the days of DOS, I once wrote a very large (several
thousand lines) batch file (using 4DOS) that automatically
changed me to and from daylight savings time.

Undoubtedly I spent much more time writing it than it ever saved
me, but it was fun to do.

I sincerely wish that this should be your biggest problem in
computing!

Matter of fact, at this time it is.
I just upgraded from W98SE (which I liked a lot) to W-XP.
A few minor glitches were easily resolved (one with help of a friendly Microsoft
MVP Windows. My machine is running just great, tahnk you!
All my programs work just great at this time.
When one doesn't, I can usually resolve it myself (or google for the subject)
or get help in a newsgroup.

Thanks for your good wishes!

Who do you know that changed the time. I always ran at the 1st of Jan.

True enough David, I suppose I was just a bit nostalgic there,
and showing off a bit, by pointing out that we DID have clocks on the
comp. even in the steam driven days!
Regards to all.
