I have a Windows XP-based machine, and a couple of weeks
ago it inexplicably stopped accepting any key combinations
for extended ASCII characters (such as ALT + 0151 for em
dash). The characters can still be copied and pasted from
Character Map, but it is extremely time consuming. The
problem seems to be on the operating system level, as
every application is suffering from it, not just one or
two. Any ideas?
