Extend schema

Our desktop group would like to add information in AD for
each workstation such as whether it should receive anti-
virus software, backup software, personal firewall, etc.
We have asset management software that gives them
information about what software versions are in use but
this "field" would state whether the system is required
to have what is normally standard software.

They propose adding an new extension and populating it
with the above information for each workstation. The
information would be updated daily. I am somewhat
hesitant and wondered what others thought or suggestions
you may have.

Karen,

One option could be to use Active Directory Application mode in combination
with MIIS to create your extension, then you could leave your domain AD
schema intact.
