ext storage advice

I bought a new Dell with a 38gb hdd.
I should've gotten 2 20gb hdds instead or a RAID system, right?
anyway, should i partition the hdd?
I have a DVD-RW/CD-R/W internal, but would
like to know what some other good external storage
solutions are. ex: 750mb zip, tape, external hdd.

since Jaz and Syquest are gone, is zip going the same way?

I am looking to store vital info on it, work, hw, Pam Anderson pics, etc.
on it and store it away in the safe deposit box.

Wrong.

The only good reason for more than one partition is if you
want to run more than one OS, multibooting, or if you want
to be able to image the boot partition with something like
Ghost before doing any install or service pack at all, just
so you can step back to before the install as quickly as
possible if thing end up rather pear shaped or you just
decide that you dont like the result for any reason.

The only thing that makes any sense today is external
hard drives. All the others have passed their useby
date now for personal desktop systems.

Yep, way past its useby date now.

Simplest to store the smaller stuff on multiple CDs
using the burner. Put the higher volume porn etc on
an external hard drive and it makes more sense to
hide that rather than bother to cart it down the bank etc.
