access 97... but I dont get the option in excel to pick
xls.. I have tried removing both products and starting
again.... but even if i just install ms office 97 now i
dont get the option... It appears that some data access
components are seen as already installed when i try to

Hi,

My name is Amy Vargo. Thank you for using the Microsoft Access Newsgroups.
You need to register the Excel and Text ISAM drivers. For Access 2000 and
higher, they are msexcl40.dll and mstext40.dll. For Access 97, they are
msexcl35.dll and mstext35.dll. I am not sure what version of Access you are
using.

1.The ISAM drivers that are included with Access 2002 are mstext40.dll and
msexcl40.dll. You normally get this error if an ISAM driver is not
registered
properly.

2.To register the file, open a Find/Search window and search for
regsvr32.exe in
C:\WinNT\System32 or the C:\Windows\System folder. Leave this window open.

3.Open a second Find window and search for mstext40.dll in
C:\WinNT\System32 or C:\Windows\System.

4.To register the file, align both Find windows side-by-side and drag the
icon for mstext40.dll ontop of the icon for regsvr32.exe. You should
receive a message
that it succeeded and click OK.

5.Follow the same steps to register msexcl40.dll. The file should
register successfully.

6.Now test importing, linking to, or exporting files as type Excel. It
should appear in the list of file types.

I hope this helps! If you have additional questions on this topic, please
respond back to this posting.
