Exporting Tables

Hi I have a database which is up and running. I tried copying the files to my
newer version of the database which has more tables but the numbers were all
off, so this is no good. Now I'm trying to export the tables from the
original to the newer version, but I'm getting an error message saying that I
don't have read privliges. The second database runs off a shortcut (with the
security file) is this the reason I'm getting this error message?
 
Instead of exporting to the newer version database, try opening up the new
one and importing into it.
