Exporting Report to Text File

Marty

I am attempting to export a report to a text file. The
preview screen looks fine. But when the text file is
created, there are additional blank lines in the file that
are not in the preview.

Also, the text file has an extra line at the top of the
file that should not be there.

Some of the lines are appearing within a section of the
report (eg group header) even though I have the section
sized only for the lines I want. Some of the lines are
imbedded in the "body" of the report/file.

In either case, I have checked the section and control
settings and nothing sticks out as being incorrect.

Is there a way to get rid of these extra lines? This is
causing a roadblock in my project.

Thanks.

Hi Marty.
I have had similar problems, the reason is that when
exporting to a text file or to word or even to rtf, the
spacing between lines of text is based on the font size.
In the access report you most likely have placed text
boxes separated by small or large spaces. When exporting
this to an other format these spaces are interpreted in
the new format at line spacing increments, so you may end
up with an extra line when the spacing appear minimal on
the access report.
The way I found to prevent these type of format
differences is to make sure the textboxes and labels are
sized to fit the font size used and make sure that the
text boxes for subsequent lines have no spacing between
them. This should correct for the line-spacing
differences.
Hope this helps.

Your suggestion seems to clear up the extra lines in
sections like the group header or report header. I am
still getting the extra line at the top of the file, but I
can deal with that if there is no way out.

In the detail section, I am still getting extra lines
every 4 or 5 valid lines. I have narrowed (vertically)
the box in that section so narrow that the text does not
display and the extra lines still appear.

I have reduced the width of the text box to the point that
I am comfortable that data will not be chopped off, but
still get extras. I even copied the text boxes to another
brand new report so I could set the page width to less
than 9" to no avail.

Thanks.
