exporting email from outlook express to microsoft outlook 2003

I have several email accounts on outlook express. When I try to import them
to the new accounts I set up in Outlook, all the email/addresses/etc. from
one of my accounts (the default email account in Express) goes into each new
Outlook account. How can I import just the email from one account into a new
account?

You are not being very clear here. Having more than one email ACCOUNT in
either OE or Outlook does NOT mean that there are separate sets of folders
for each account UNLESS you have set up a separate IDENTITY in OE for each
account, and a separate PROFILE for each account in Outlook. If not, then
the number of email ACCOUNTS has no bearing on the mail folders in OE or
Outlook. Without Identities or profiles, all email for each account gets
downloaded into the same set of folders and when you export that from OE,
all the mail gets transferred into Outlook into the one pst file.

Please post back with your EXACT setup both in OE and Outlook.

Sorry (I'm not an expert at this) - you are right: in Outlook Express I had
four different identities: four separate email addresses, each with its own
identity and profile and each with its own address book, etc. I installed
Microsoft Office Outlook 2003 (so that I can sync information with handheld
devices) and tried setting up the same four different identities in Outlook
2003 to match those in Outlook Express so I could use the new program for
email. This is how I tried doing it: I used "Tools"; "Email Accounts": "Add a
new email account", etc.. After doing that, I went into each email account
and used "File"; "Import/Export"; "Import Internet mail Settings"; "Import
email and addresses" - What happened was that all of the email and address
book for one of my Outlook Express Identities (the default) went into all
four of the new Outlook email accounts - There doesn't seem to be any way to
direct which email account gets imported - does that make sense? Any help is
appreciated (Microsoft charges $59 for help!)

Outlook uses Profiles
Each profile can have its own data file and individual email account, they
are completely separate to any other Profile.
However, whilst with Outlook Express you could switch Identities, with
Outlook you have to log off then open the other Profile
Baring that in mind you need to consider how you want to set up Outlook,
also consider that individual Profiles will result in separate Calendars and
tasks

Many people use a single Profile configured with multiple email accounts,
then create folders and rules to move sent/received mail to the appropriate
folder

PS You export mail from OE to OL, if you want to retain the mail dates, and
Import addresses in OL from OE

OK. Misunderstanding no 1. Adding an email account to an existing Outlook
profile is NOT the same as creating a new Profile (aka OE identity).

You can have many email accounts within the one profile - they all use the
same set of folders.

Have you downloaded new email into Outlook 2003?

Is it really necessary to have four different profiles in Outlook as opposed
to four mail accounts in the one profile and using Rules to separate the
mail into different folders?

Outlook uses the "modified date" on data to perform various functions,
including archiving.
What you SHOULD have done is to go into each identity in OE and EXPORTED the
mail from there to outlook.

I suggest that if you haven't downloaded mail to Outlook yet, you go to
Control panel-Mail, delete the data files, remove the profile, and create a
new one (or more if you MUST have more) and then in OE go into each identity
in turn and export the mail into the profile of your choice.

I'll try exporting from Outlook Express into Microsoft Outlook as you
suggested - I'm not comfortable delieting the data files from the COntrol
Panel, as I can't risk losing the email I have on Outlook Express. Do you
know of any Microsoft Support Articles that walk you through the process?

Who suggested deleting files in the control panel, or what exactly do you
mean by this?
If you mean deleting Outlook Profiles (Not outlook Express Identities) this
merely removes the profile and does nothing to the data files

So the questions is; Do you wish to set up a single Outlook Profile
containing all your email accounts or do you wish to setup a seperate
Profile for each mail account?

This guy "Gordon" who also responsed to my posting. I don't really know
whether I want separate email accounts or separate profiles. I have two email
accounts for me (one business and one personal) and my husband has two email
accounts (one for business and one personal). They all go through comcast.net
- we have 4 different profiles and currently use Outlook Express (we can
switch between identities at home, and away, we can go in through
comcast.net). I wanted to switch to Microsoft Outlook 2003 so that both of us
can sync our own calendars and address books (set up through Outlook) to
mobile devices. Nothing I could find would sync with Outlook Express. So now
I'm trying to convert our email accounts (just the way they are in Outlook
Express) to Microsoft OUtlook 2003, understanding that we can no longer
"switch profiles" but have to go into each profile separately (no big deal).
I thought I had done it correctly, but only one email account will import
(the default Outlook Express email identity) - I can't seem to separate them
out when importing into OUtlook - this is really hard to explain on line!

No - Haven't tried that - maybe that's what I should have done in the
beginning. I'll give it a shot - thanks for the link, I'll see if that helps.
