Exporting Data to Linking Excel Files

What would be the easiest / best way to export data to Excel where records
are exported at the end of each month. A main Excel file needs to pull that
information from each month and display the data for all months year to date.
I guess you could call it an accumlative file.

The only thing I've come up with is to create an Excel file for each month
ahead of time (Jan - Dec). Create the main Excel file and link to each month
Excel file. At the end of each month, export the corresponding information to
it's respective month file. Open the main excel file and click update.
