Exporting data from Access to Excel 2003 with combo box problem

I have a report with a combo box field on it. When I export it to Excel 2003
I get
all the fields but the one relating to the combo box is returning a number
instead of text.
Any ideas less than changing the report to have text boxes for these fields
instead of combo boxes.

Yes the combo box's bound column is populated with a number 1, I have tried
changing to a 0 but it still exports a number to excel instead of the text.
Could you describe the second column part that you have suggested. thanks
