Export to Quickbooks

I am trying to import excel data into Quickbooks. Do you need to buy
program to convert the excel file? I am trying to enter orders i
excel, print the invoice in Excel, and export the data to Quickbooks o
a daily basis. Is this do-able??

Thank you,
Taboo:blush:

Dear Tabatha

Within QuickBooks there should be an option to import data
from Excel (probably found within the File menu). It is a
while since I did this so my memory of it is abit sketchy.
If that does not work, I am pretty sure that you are able
to import a csv file into quickbooks, which can be
achieved by saving the excel file as a csv file - hope
this helps and if you need any more help, please feel free
to contact me.

Kind regards

Sort of.

Yes, it is possible to import data from Excel, but it must be done in a very specific and precise way. In fact, what you are importing is a series of commands that create the invoice in QuickBooks.

Following is an example of a command telling QuickBooks to create an invoice:
!TRNS TRNSTYPE DATE ACCNT NAME AMOUNT DOCNUM MEMO INVITEM INVMEMO TOPRINT
!SPL TRNSTYPE DATE ACCNT NAME AMOUNT DOCNUM MEMO INVITEM INVMEMO TOPRINT
!ENDTRNS
TRNS Invoice 3/17/2003 Accounts Receivable The McIntosh Group 7.81 317.001 Printing Services Plotting/Printing Thank you! Y
SPL Invoice Kinko's D&I:SB2:Dallas TX North Tollway
SPL Invoice Plotting Income -9.05 Plotting/Printing Services Plotting/Printing
SPL Invoice Preferred Customer Discount 1.81 Discount Preferred Customer Discount
SPL Invoice Sales Tax Payable Oklahoma Tax Comission -0.57 OK State Sales Tax OK State Sales Tax

The above creates one invoice. QB is really weak in this area, that is conversion and importing. But, yes, it is doable, but it isn't for the weak at heart.

Not for the weak at heart, definitely YES.
Quickbooks weak in this area... it depends.
Once the file to import is constructed correctly Quickbooks imports it
without problems. It can be thousands of items long or just one item.
Importing takes minutes for a thousand entries.
The help files give examples of how to set up the import file in both
spreadsheet and word format. If you want examples of files I have used
and imported, just ask.
However I question the logic of doing it from Excel to Quickbooks.
Quickbooks forte is ease of use. Surely it would make sense to
generate the invoices in Quickbooks and then export to Excel if you
need to.
Why are you doing it the other way round?
Regards
Mick
