Export to DV tape...

Chris

Hi There

I have a Texas Instrements OHCI compliant firewire
IEEE1394 PCMCIA card in a NEC Versa E400 laptop. 17GB
spare disk, 256MB ram, P4m 1.8Ghz
Runnng Windows XP Home (SP1.5)

I tested the WinDV procedure provided by PapaJoh and have
also full defraged my HD.

My Camera is a Sony DCR-TRV10E Pal camera (purchased in
Aus)Has built in DV IN/OUT.

I am able to capture footage but are unable to export
to DV. In goes through the motions is if it is working
except the preview on the LCD or Viewfinder is blue.
The red recording dot comes up on screen and the counter
runs.

The camera is in VCR mode - so thats right.

The card, camera and cable work as i have tested them
on another laptop - and all is fine with export to tape
working 100%. The laptop i tested on was similar spec
except running Windows XP Prof. I have also tried
recording to another Sony Digicam (different model) on
my laptop and that has the same problem.

So it's either my Laptop hardware or my O/S.

I have tested the export with Studio 8, WMMII, and
Director. So i can assume its not the editing s/wre.

I am totally confused.

(Also did a clean install of my o/s and laptop recently
too - however i did not use the camera before then so
im not sure if it "used to work"

Thanks
Chris

Additional to this:

Very interestin.... I tested with Adobe Premiere and I
found that if i preview the timeline WITH the DV Camera
switched on the preview barely plays.

When I turn off the camera and preview the clip the
preview is very fluid. Do you think the firewire & cam
are sucking the energy from my machine and thats why its
not working? Would this happen or should it happen?

Hi Chris

Off-topic for this group, but since you mention it...

You can change Premiere's behaviour in this respect. A new project's
default is to send the signal back to the DV device which really slows down
the on-screen preview. Either turn the camera off or disable the Playback
on DV feature in the Project settings (Project -> Project Settings ->
General) to get real-time playback on screen.

It really bugged me to begin with until I found out what was happening!!
