How do I export the membership of a Security Group? I need to know who
belongs to certain groups as these form records of users with specific
software installed.

membership in a nice report that is easily exportable. No scripting skills
required at all. You can go to www.visualclick.com and get a free
evaluation. In this case the applet you would want to use is under the
Query and Search AD section and is called "Document Group Membership".
