export autocorrection list excel2K to excel2003 ?

I try to transport excel2000( UK) autocorrection list to another
computer using excel2003 (DUTCH). So far with no succes.
Then I made a spreadsheet containing all the autocorrections in 3
columns (error, autocorrection, RTF not true). Then I used the
support.dot template (word) in office 2003 to restore/backup the
autocorrection list and added the data of my spreadsheet to the
'autocorrect backup document. doc' . Now the autocorrections are
available in word2003 but not excel ?
In office 2003 autocorrections are shared between programs , but as far
as I see only in one direction: if I add an autocorrection to excel2003
it is automatically available in word2003 , but when I add an
autocorrection to word2003 it is not available in excel2003.
Where is the excel autocorrection file saved (which *acl ? , other?).
How can I share autocorrection list in excel with others ?

thanks for any feedback..

Excel stores its autocorrections in an *.ACL file.

Should be one *.acl file for Excel and Word since they share.

Search for *.acl files on the Excel 2000 computer and note where it/they are.

Make some outrageous(unique) autocorrect entries in Excel 2000 then go see
which *.acl was altered. Copy that one over.

Here's a link that has some code written by Dana DeLouis that will display the
autocorrect list. You can edit it down to merge with another user.

You could even use one of the subroutines to clean up the things you added.

If I added a bunch of words to my own .ACL file, I wouldn't want you to
overwrite my list with yours.

thanks for prompt reply.
I managed to share the autocorrection list from excel2k with a use
having office2003. As described in original post I generated al
autocorrections in a excel table and imported this data into th
"autocorrection backup doc.doc" generated with the "support.dot
template in word2003.
I succeeded doing this on a clean installed office2003 configuration
The autocorrection list is the same in word and excel and entries yo
make in either program will be available to both programs.
I could not locate the file that contains the autocorrections you add
the *.acl files do not change in size and 'date of last modification
does not alter.
If you add a lot autocorrection entries yourself and want t
edit/backup or share them with others open "support.dot" found a
"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\OFFICE11\MACROS" it is ful
documented by MS.
It seems this works the same in office 2002, not sure for olde
versions.

Thank you for prompt replies.
I investigated where, what and how and these are my conclusions so
far:
1- entries you add to the autocorrection list in either Word or Excel
in Office11 are shared among both programs.
2- autocorrections you add are NOT saved in *.ACL files. The *.ACL
files in office11 all have the same filename: "MSO.ACL"and are located
in different folders. Neither the date/time of last modification or the
size in bytes changes when you add autocorrection to the list in Excel
or Word. I could not find which file(s) contain the autocorrections a
user adds. All users with same version of MSoffice and same language
have *.acl files with same size and date even if they made changes to
autocorrection lists.
3- The backup/restore macro in 'support.dot' (C:\Program
Files\Microsoft Office\OFFICE11\MACROS) creates a Word document
''autocorrection backup document.doc' that you can use to
backup, restore and edit autocorrection list. BUT: the autocorrections
you add by editing this Word document are only available in Word...

Where are the autocorrections stored ?
Easy way to edit?
I am not a programmer , analysis of the macro in suppport.dot or the
code mentioned in previuos thread may lighten up things ?

thanks in advance for any feedback

#1. It's a shared application across all of office (powerpoint, too)
#2. I use xl2002 (version 10) under win98.
I made a small change to my ACL list and then closed excel.
Then I searched for *.ACL via windows explorer.

I found a few, but the one that was updated just moments earlier was in
this folder: c:\windows\application data\microsoft\office
and named: MSO1033.acl

I would be very surprised if xl2003 (version 11) changed the extension of this
file (from .ACL).

If this is a hidden file (or in a hidden folder), I believe some versions of
windows must be told to look for hidden files/folders.

maybe you could use an old DOS command to search:

dir c:\*.acl /s /a

works for me in win98
(/s=search subfolders, /a=return all files no matter their attribute setting)

#3. This goes against what you wrote in #1. If it's shared, then it's shared.

This .ACL file isn't like the custom dictionaries (*.dic). They look hex to
me--not plain old ascii.

when you updated the list, were you logged on as the same person who would be
using the pc. I think that these settings are saved under each person's profile
(if you've enabled profiles or your version of windows uses them).
