Explorer won't work but Netscape will

C

Cliff

I have used IE exclusively for years but one day last week
I get the message "The page you are looking for is
currently unavailable. The Web site might be experiencing
technical difficulties, or you may need to adjust your
browser settings."
My Outlook email works fine and I am now using Netscape,
which also works fine. I've checked my LAN settings,
rebooted a hundred times, I'm lost.
Does this sound familiar to anyone

Do you get this response at every website you visit with IE or just one
specific site?

If you have a firewall, try disabling it and see if you still have the
issue, if not, you likely have a setting in the firewall that is blocking
IE.

The firewall setting appeared to be disabled. I went to
Network Connections / Properties / Advanced and the box was
not checked.
I tried IE again and it still isn't working.

Do you have any other security software, antivirus, etc, any software that
might block ads or popups as sometimes these apps can block access.

Have you always had this problem or is this a recent issue? If it's a
recent issue, try using System Restore to take you back to a time prior to
when this began. Start\All Programs\Accessories\System Tools\System
Restore.

I do have security software, antivirus and pop-up blockers.
I have tried to disable and IE still is not working.

Have you always had this problem or is this a recent issue? Open Internet
Explorer, go to Tools, select Internet Options, on the General Tab click
Delete Cookies, Delete Files (Accept the option to delete all Offline
Content) and click Clear History. Now, go to the Advanced tab, remove the
check from "Enable third party browser extension," click apply, go to the
Programs tab, remove the check from "Internet Explorer should check to see
whether it is the default browser," click apply and ok, then replace the
check and click apply and ok. Reboot the system, open Internet Explorer, it
should ask if you wish to make IE the default browser, answer yes and
decline the option to have it have ask each time you open Internet Explorer,
then see if you can go anywhere.

If that fails, as I stated earlier, if this is a recent issue and you've
been able to use IE in the past, try using System Restore to take you back
to a time before this started, Start\All Programs\Accessories\System
Tools\System Restore.
