Explorer Windows Open Minimized on Win XP Home

When I switch from any open window to the desktop and click on a shortcut,
the program opens minimized to the taskbar. It is not hugely irritating but
if I could prevent this, I'd like to. Once I maximize the program, exit and
later restart, without toggling to the desktop, it opens maximized.

Are you sure it's minimised? Right click the button and say what the options are. Are all programs like this or just some. Do the properties in the shortcut say to start minimised?

All of them start minimized. They maximize when I right or left click them,
then after that, when I close the program and restart it starts maximized,
unless toggle to the desktop and then they start minimized. There were no
options to start minimized when I right clicked.
