Explorer missing treeview

When ever I explore a folder/drive the treeview is
missing.
All the other views - search, history & favourites are
there and working, however folders just brings up an
empty pane on the left.

No drives, no folders, nuthin.
Anyone advise on a way to repair this?
Its w2k server sp4 if thats of any consequence.

This problem seems to be coming up almost everyday on the NG.
Check Google. E.g.,

of which

seem to be the most relevant.
