I have an IBM ThinkPad A31 w/W2k Pro w/SP4. I have just
cleaned up a Sasser and Blaster mess. Now when I click on
the MY Computer icon it takse several minutes to open.
Once it does open I can open folders, other than drive
folders ok. If I click on a different drive the same
several minutes elapse before I can see the contents. I
would greatly appreciate any help.

Thanks

I would suspect that this is related to the worms and not service pack 4. I
have literally 100's of machines running Sp4 without issues. Did you try and
uninstall SP4 and see if the problem persists? Does IBM have any updates
related to your laptop and Sp4?

I would try returning Internet Explorer back to a prior version. I am assuming you are using IE 6. After that see if it helps. If it does go ahead and reinstall IE 6. Caveat. If you have ever installed a Service Pack over IE in Windows 2000 where version of IE is greater then what comes natively with Windows 2000 you will not be able to do this.

it is likely looking for a non-existant network connection
or trying to read a defective CD.

I have plugged it into my router to share the cable modem,
so there is a network connection. I have the problem
whether or not the LAN connection is enabled or disabled.

I can run CDs. Is it possible that it's not seeing the
drive under some circumstances?

I'm downloading some stuff from IBM. utilities etc.

Thanks for your help!

I'm having the trouble with Explorer, rather than IE. Is
it possible for IE to wreak havoc with Explorer? I am
running IE 6.

I knew that. My suggestion still stands. If you want to verify for yourself that there is no difference between IE and Windows Explorer then in Windows Explorer in the Address bar type http://www.microsoft.com and hit <ENTER>.
