Explorer hangs looking for non existant volume

Doing a search Explorer hangs and a Window pops up which shows My
Documents with the message "Please locate the volume number 1" and it is
looking for type: Backup Archive. I have to use Task Manager to end it and
Explorer and computer unresponsive until reboot.
Already tried Sysytem Restore and the following suggestions to no avail
1.change search preferences to index/no
2. reinstalled search companion
3. create a new profile. (Can not try this one because need to keep current
profile.)
I'm using XP Pro SP3.
Also, other user on this PC does not have this problem.

Check that the Search "More advanced options" "Search tape backup" is
un-checked.

it is not and has not been checked. I search the C drive only.

Issue finally resolved on Oct 10. I searced the registry and found "volume
number 1" in Hkey-Users/Software/Microsoft/SearchAssistant/ACMru/5603. A
subsequent cleanup of temp files and other unneeded files removed that
reference in 5603 and problem disappeared.
