Hi,

Over recent weeks whenever I start exploring through "My Computer" all the
files/ folder and other icons are being displayed without titles or details:

This is WinXP Pro with no third-party themes or display software installed

Does anyone know how to fix this?

Select any other view than the one you have now. Then press Shift and
select the desired view.

Wow - that worked for the titles - many thanks.

One more question, how can I get the My Documents folder to reappear? All I
have is Shared Documents and the drives.

Thanks in advance

You're welcome, Stuart.

Where exactly is My Documents missing from? If you are referring to the
right hand pane in Windows Explorer with My Computer selected or to a
My Computer window, TweakUI for XP may be able to help.

There is a setting in the My Computer section of this program. If "Files
Stored on this Computer" is checked, it will add a list of document
folders to the areas mentioned before.

TweakUI is one of the Power toys for XP. The current version available for
downloading is *only* for XP with SP1:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/downloads/powertoys.asp

If you are still missing document folders for a particular account and it
is a new account, log on as that user one time so that its folders will
be created.

OK I tried TweakUI, on opening the app "Files Stored on this Computer" was
checked, so I unchecked it and rechecked it (a few times) with no effect.
This is the My Documents folder for this one and only account that gets any
use. I have mine and "Administrator" Anyway having recovered the titles I
can live with this - the occasional repair happens on a machine that gets
used for testing many many apps, the next one could remove the problem
altogether. I'll try TweakUI when I can next reboot - that may make the
difference.

Thanks for your help.

You're welcome, Stuart. Hope it all turns out the way that you would like
it to. Since you use this system for testing, have you considered using
imaging software or virtual pc software with it? Either approach could
save you considerable time if testing goes awry and it becomes necessary
to roll back to working status.

BootIt NG is partition managing software but includes an imaging feature.
Quite a bargain for the price. http://terabyteunlimited.com/

Have fun testing!
