Explorer.exe not working properly

After installing the patch for the W32.Blaster.Worm
virus, every time I boot up my computer the taskbar,
start menu and desktop icons are gone. If I go into the
task manager and stop explorer.exe, then run it again,
everything pops back up. Everything on my computer then
works fine, but it's getting to be a hassle to do this
every time I start my computer. I've been unable to find
anyone with a similar problem, so any kind of feedback
you all have would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for
your time.

Hi Wagner,

This should have nothing to do with removing the worm. There are only three
entries to be deleted. And neither of them would affect the taskbar and
desktop items. Which process did you use?

In the meantime.....

Go to Start/Run and type in CMD:
expand x:\i386\explorer.ex_ c:\windows\explorer.exe

Restore Desktop Icons and Taskbar (Line 195)

Note: Do not reboot or logoff. Once the edit is merged, right click the
Notification Area/Task Manager/Processes. Highlight Explorer.exe, End
Process.

Leave the Task Manager open. Once the process has ended, choose File/New
Task and type in: Explorer.exe.
