Explorer.exe error

Clean install of W2K, IE6.1 & all updates on new HDD.
Receiving "explorer.exe has generated errors and will be
closed by Windows. You will need to restart the program."
error message when using the modem (Xircom Realport REM56G-
100 Pcmcia ethernet/modem card) Any ideas??
 
I have exactly the same problem. I simply don't understand
how come Microsoft is not already on top of this or
offering some sort of support...
