Hi Mike,
If you Back up your Data, you don't need to be warry!, Memory can't be read,
can be the cause of many things, like but not limited to;
Defective software/hardware installed on your computer or damaged file/folder.
Bad memory or not enough memory for the Applications to run on your system
and IE not releasing the Memory.
Try to limit the size of your TIF set it between 50-80 MBs to do that;
Right Click the IE Icon on your Desktop (assuming you have IE SP2) if not
open the IE and click on Tools >> Internet Options >> General Tab >> Click
on Settings Button.
Under Temporary Internet Files folders;

Amount of disk space to use:
Move the slider to 80 MBs and click OK to confirm your changes.
While you are there clear your caches and Offline Files and delete your
cookies and close your IE Properties and Reboot your Machine and see if the
Issue will resolve.
If still no joy;
Do you have other Toolbars installed like Google, Yahoo...etc, try to
uninstall them and see if they the culprit in this behavoir.
If no joy then Uninstall/Reinstall IE from the Add/Remove Progrms is your
Option.
HTH.
Please let us know.
Regards,
nass

i do not have my desktop right now, all that i have is my mouse and my
desktop background.

do you get it?!? I DO NOT HAVE MY DESKTOP OR TASKBAR!!! NO PROGRAMS WILL LOAD
UNLESS EXPLORER.EXE IS RUNNING!!

Could you start in Safe mode and Check for any Error messages and do you
have anti-virus up2date to scan your computer for Viruses?.
If you Press CTRL+ALT+DEL see the Offensive Proceesor and Kill it/End it.
and see if you will get your Icons back, it seem to me it is Video Card
going bad!.
HTH.

Download MULTI_AV.EXE from the URL --
http://www.ik-cs.com/programs/virtools/Multi_AV.exe

To use this utility, perform the following...
Execute; Multi_AV.exe { Note: You must use the default folder C:\AV-CLS }
Choose; Unzip
Choose; Close

Execute; C:\AV-CLS\StartMenu.BAT
{ or Double-click on 'Start Menu' in C:\AV-CLS }

NOTE: You may have to disable your software FireWall or allow WGET.EXE to go through your
FireWall to allow it to download the needed AV vendor related files.

C:\AV-CLS\StartMenu.BAT -- { or Double-click on 'Start Menu' in C:\AV-CLS}
This will bring up the initial menu of choices and should be executed in Normal Mode.
This way all the components can be downloaded from each AV vendor's web site.
The choices are; Sophos, Trend, McAfee, Kaspersky, Exit this menu and Reboot the PC.

You can choose to go to each menu item and just download the needed files or you can
download the files and perform a scan in Normal Mode. Once you have downloaded the files
needed for each scanner you want to use, you should reboot the PC into Safe Mode [F8 key
during boot] and re-run the menu again and choose which scanner you want to run in Safe
Mode. It is suggested to run the scanners in both Safe Mode and Normal Mode.

When the menu is displayed hitting 'H' or 'h' will bring up a more comprehensive PDF help
file. http://www.ik-cs.com/multi-av.htm

Your OS must then be corrupted because the source is fine. That could be why Explorer.exe
crashes.

Hi Mike,
It seems to me you have a nasty Virus corrupted your system.
If you can't do what David Mentioned and I assume you have an Internet
access do a scan online from here;
http://www.panadasecurity.com
http://www.trendmicro.com
http://www.avast.com
and scan for malware:
http://www.lavasoftusa.com
If still no joy, then Hock your HDD as a Slave to another machine with the
same OS or Partition NTFS and scan your HDD by up2date Anti-virus and you can
rescue your Data from there.
If you can't do the above and there is no shame in admitting that,take your
machine to a Professional and they will fix it for you.
HTH.
Please let us know.
Regards,
nass

I have a suggestion and im too lazy to see if anyone else already said it but
here it goes...

Once in that screen with the background and the mouse, press CTRL+ALT+DEL.
Click File, then New Task (Run...). Type the following and press enter:

sfc /scannow

If the installation files are not on your computer, make sure you have your
cdrom.

If you want to access the internet, use one of these other commands for the
Run box:

iexplore
firefox

The first one opens Internet Explorer, and the second opens Mozilla Firefox
(If installed)
