explorer.exe CPU 100%

Having problems when launching Control.exe, My computer, etc.. As soon as these processes are launched the Explorer.exe process is pegged at 100%. I am able to launch applications such as IE, Outlook and other applications. I have run both Ad-aware and Spy-bot, also have run anti-virus with latest defs. Any other suggestions????? (problem started on Friday 2/13, did not install any programs, However did accidently accept a pop up which installed an additional IE toolbar.) I have since removed it and still no luck

hmm...perhaps you need a real OS like Linux. If you are
nervous about switching, try morphix first (www.morphix.org)

BTW - just so M$ doesn't act like it's usual bitchy self
and start suing ppl...I am in no way connect with any Linux
companies...I am just 13 year old geek...and like all
geeks, I HATE microshaft, for, unlike Linux, it is not a
real OS

I have the same issue as you describe and I am running out
of options. Tried the same things as you did. My problems
began about 2 weeks ago. I am working in safe-mode and all
works fine, but it is just a workaround. I hope someone
has a more permanent solution. And yes I have thought of
Linux but it is quite a leap I have to take.

Have the same problem on two PCs, one with XP home and the other has 98, tries everything I can think of. In need of some help

I was having similiar issues and found a solution here:

Basicly looks like a bogus dll I deleted it and everything is working
fine.
