explorer.exe - Application Error...... MSHTML.DLL..... Access Violation

The instruction at "0x6370d286" referenced memory at 0x000000000. The memory could not be read.

Okay, my IE (v6 SP1) is working fine, I am able to browser and do all the wonderful things with it. However, If I try to open a .htm file in my windows explorer by doule clicking this is the error message that I see. Now matter how I open this file, I get the error message and when I cancel it to Debug it launches my MS C++ Debugger.

In the MS C++ Debugger, I iget the following window:

Unhandled Exception in explorer.exe (MSHTML.DLL). Access Violation.

What in the world is going on? I have seen this issue ever since I upgraded my machine to SP4 of Win2K Pro.

I have gone through all the exercises elaborated in the Newgroups of Spybots and the Parasites........ and after spending a lot of time trying to figure this out, I very strongly believe, it Win2K SP4 related problem. I have updates my systems with all the lastes and great HotFixes from Microsoft and I still see this.

Can some out there (preferably with Microsoft) help me resolve this, without pointing me to Non Microsoft URL! Please advice.

JR.... The note that you pointed me to DOES NOT provide any help. It referes to IE 5.5. Please note I have IE v6.0.2800.1106 with SP1, Q816506, Q824145, Q330994

First eliminate any scumware.
See
Dealing with Unwanted Spyware, Parasites, Toolbars and Search Engines
http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/unwanted.htm

Note that AdAware and SpyBot S & D will each catch some things the other
won't. Also, each need to be updated before every use, even when just
downloaded.

If trying everything at that site does not fix the problem please post back
in the same thread.
