Explorer Error

George J. Malmos

WinXP Home on AMD 2.0 CPU with 1024 MB memory & 38+ GB of free HD
space, windows Explorer frequently crashes on right click and other
routine file processing activity, especially when involving USB zip
drive. HD searching with adaware,spy-sweeper & my virus program
reveals no pests, virus or trojans. Newsgroups scoured for a solution,
but none found. Can someone help?
Here's what Windows' system event viewer states about this problem:

Hi,

Please follow these methods one by one and see after each step if the
problem is gone.

Method 1:
=========
Internet Explorer 6.x Repair for Windows XP

1. Click Start ->Run.
2. Type sfc /scannow (Note: There is a space between sfc and /scannow)
3. Select the OK button.
4. Follow the prompts throughout the System File Checker process.
5. Reboot the computer when System File Checker completes.

Method 2:
=========

1. Click Start -> Run
2. Type the following command
3. "rundll32.exe setupapi,InstallHinfSection DefaultInstall 132
%windir%\inf\ie.inf"
4. When prompted for the CD, Insert the windows XP cd

This fixes most problems. If not, see below the KB Article:

Reinstall or Repair Internet Explorer and Outlook Express in Windows XP:
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=318378

Method 3:
========
Start the system in normal mode.

1. Click Start -> Run
2. Type "MSConfig" and click OK.
3. In the "System Configuration Utility" windows select the "Startup" tab
and click on Disable All
4. Now reboot and start IE without connecting to Internet

Do you get any error message? If the answer is "No", then enable each
application by checking one by one and trace out the problem.

Method 4:
=========
Create a new user and check if same problem occurs for the new user as
well. If the answer is "NO", then copy all the files from the old user to
the newly created user.

Please check the KB Article # 811151"How to copy data from a corrupted user
profile to a new profile"
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;811151

Hope this helps ...... :)
