explorer downloading w/o asking

As i browse the web i continually get directed to a pge
that downloads things to my computer such as "second
thought" lycos sidesearch and some casino stuff. I have
a pop up blocker and i am firewalled what can i do?

in ie tools,options,advanced,uncheck both 'enable install
on demand',apply and then run spybot or adaware.
