Explorer does not show a particlular directory

I used Disk Cleanup on my system drive C:. It showed, among other
things, 32kb of files in Web Client/Publisher Temporary Files but after
saying OK and letting Disk Cleanup do its job those 32kb were not
removed.

I then went to a command prompt an ran DIR *.tmp /s on the drive and
found a directory with a lot of TMP files in sub directories in it. The
directory name is

C:\Documents and Settings\John Gillis\Local Settings\Temporary Internet
Files\Content.IE5 and it has the following sub directories:

0PYZK56B
4BITU34J
4HOZIDK5
4TURWH2N
6LKNU5I5
A1Q1SHML
MNQ7M56Z
OXA30X2R
S9IBWHM7
W5S92R01
WXQBKP6V
YXS3QLI7

ATTRIB on the parent directory shows it to be a system and hidden
directory. I have Display Contents of System Folders and Show Hidden
Files checked on the Folder Options. Yet, Explorer does not show the
directory Content.IE5.
It seems to me that it should if I have enabled those two folder
options. Why is this and why doesn't the Web Client/Publisher Temporary
Files get removed by Disk Cleanup?

Also, can I force the deletion of all those tmp files in the
subdirectories without harm?

Thank you very much for helping me understand.

First, let me recommend you upgrade IE to version 6.0
Then after installing you can rightclick the icon/Properties and delete cookies, temporary on and offline internet files and History to do the job. You can safely delete the temporary sub-directories but WinXP will create new ones when surfing the internet. Client/Publisher files should not be deleted for some programs share these temporary files and 32mb will not hurt your disk space.

Odd thing is that my IE is 6. I guess that .IE5 Folder is left over
from when I had 5 installed. Would deleting the .IE5 folder be in order
now?

Thank you.

Anyone running Windows XP already has IE 6.0.

Thanks, Ken. Then I am totally puzzled why my Temporary Internet Files
has a directory entitled Content.ie5. Seems to me that XP (clean
install) would have set it up as Content.ie6. Go figure!

Anyway, I'm not going to worry too much about but, as Anna was told,
"'tis a puzzlement!."

Thanks again.

You're welcome. I'm not sure why that folder is there, but I
suspect that something other than Windows created it.
