How Can I stop Microsoft Internet Explorer from changing
my password by adding several unwarranted characters thus
interfering with my connection?

I know that you are checking for virus, so.

There's a good possibility that this is being caused by a third-party
program (adware, spyware, parasite).

If this is WinXP, you can't. However, the password will work. WinXP
intentionally displays the wrong number of characters.
