I have Windows XP Pro SP2 (all latest patches, updates, etc.), and
recently, for no reason I can understand nor can "fix", when I click on
the icon to open Windows Explorer (not 'IE', just explorer.exe), I get
only My documents and My Networks displayed in the left-hand window view
on the screen . no drives (C:; D:; etc.), no My Computer, etc. . nothing
else. In the address bar on this screen, I can at least type in "C:\",
hit Enter, and in the left-hand window, I THEN get the 'full-meal-deal"
display like I am used to seeing. However, on exit from this, it does
not "stick" or view retained, so that I have to do this each time.
Suggestions?
My only work-around to-date has been to put a short-cut 'My Computer'
icon onto my Quick Launch bar where I used to have my 'Windows Explorer'
short-cut icon (I took if off myself after about listed experiences).

Explorer and My Computer Dr. Ken, there's a way to have the full meal deal displayed when clicking on the Explorer Icon. Since my memory is not what
it used to be due to age and alcohol I have to refer you to the wise Kelly. http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_abc.htm
Select M and scroll to MyDocuments.
My Documents Folder - Change the Windows Explorer Default Startup Folder

To change the default startup folder for Windows Explorer:
Click Start, point to All Programs , point to Accessories , and then right-click Windows Explorer. On the menu that appears, click Properties.

In the Target box, append the "/root" command-line switch to the "%SystemRoot%\Explorer.exe" command, using the startup location that you want. For example, if you want Windows Explorer to start at the root of drive C, edit the command to the following: %SystemRoot%\Explorer.exe /root, C:\. To have C open expanded: explorer /n,/e,c:\. An additional tip, the command line EXPLORER.SCF works just as well. And/or: Start/Run and enter: ""explorer.exe/n,/e,::{20D04FE0-3AEA-1069-A2D8-08002B30309D}"" from command, or make a shortcut.

HOW TO: Customize the Windows Explorer Views
