Shift TAb to go back to previous tab stops doesn't work. It acts just like
you are using the tab key by itself. How can I get Shift Tab to work
properly for Word 2003?

What exactly are you trying to do with it? If you are trying to use it to
unindent, go to the AutoFormat As You Type tab of Tools | AutoCorrect
Options and check the box for "Set left- and first-indent with tabs and
backspaces."

I'm trying to use Shift+Tab like it has functioned in the past - use it to
back up to preceding tab stops. Say I am created tabular data/info in a line
and I simply want to go back to a previous tab to correct some information,
before word 2003 I could simply use Shift+Tab go back in a line or series of
lines one tab at a time. When I use Shift +Tab in word 2003 it just sets
additional tabs instead of backing up.

AFAIK, it's never worked that way in ordinary text in Word, only in tables.
