I downloaded several ebooks over the past 3 to 4 months. Recently, I
had to reinstall my Windows XP and obviously had to reinstall Reader
(which I downloaded the latest version) & reactivated the Reader.
However, at the Passport login page, when I entered the password,
nothing happened.

I had read that if the hotmail account is not used for 90 days, it
will be deleted. Thinking that this might be the reason, I registered
with hotmail again using the old username but new password and
proceeded to activate the Reader.

However, all my protected ebook cannot be read with the error message
of "This copy of the Microsoft Reader cannot open this title. You may
not have the appropriate rights for viewing this content."

I tried deleting all the cookies & reactivating but same result. Any
ideas?

Hotmail accounts are sometimes but not always deactivated, but your passport
is still valid. Use your original passport with original password to
activate MSReader.

The problem you were having is not uncommon with the Reader activation site.
Persistance usually pays off!
